About

The Saint Paul Mudsteppers play country blues inspired by the recorded works of the early 1900's in the Deep South.  Their main source of material is the great Mississippi Sheiks, but the Mudsteppers do not try to be a carbon copy.  The band tries to present this old music in a new and energetic way.

The Band-

Clawhammer Mike - Banjo

Mike has in hands in many musical pots including the Minnesota Fiddle Tunes Project.  He loves singing the songs of the Mississippi Sheiks, Bo Carter, Mississippi John Hurt.  He gives them an old-timey twist with his clawhammer banjo.

Matt Hafele - Resonator

Matt works in a horseradish factory and lives with his family in Wisconsin.  He is happiest when he is playing a Bo Carter lick note for note

Courtney Buck - Fiddle

Courtney is a grade school teacher in Minneapolis, so she can put up with the bands bad potty jokes.  She also plays fiddle in Broken Heartland String Band

Jonathan Tangen- Upright Bass

Jonathan is a recent transplant from North Dakota.  He really likes living in the Twin Cities and is an easy going fellow.
